Fund a Land with Kongsi – Inspiring solution to secure land for our future

We are losing food production land to development rapidly. We have a choice: watch another concrete building replacing our food producing farm, or preserve it as a green heart for our community.

Fund a Land with Kongsi is not merely a land purchase; it is a profound shift in how we relate to our food, our community, and our future. In a landscape of rising houses, we are creating a permanent common space – a sustainable farm, a breathing space for play, learning, and growing.

When the purchase is successful, the land will be placed under a Community Land Trust to fulfil its intended purpose of sustainable farming, young farmers apprenticeship program and as a community space. This is the model that will save the land from the temptation of being sold for profit in urbanisation. The land itself becomes a permanent, community-controlled asset that benefits the community and future generations.

“If everyone owns it, then nobody directly benefits from the land and everyone benefits from the produce.” Tai Lee Shyong, GK Farm

Farmers can’t afford to buy land to grow food when land prices keep going up due to urbanisation. Fund a Land with Kongsi is an opportunity to secure ecological farms, ensure healthy food supplies and sustainable future for our community. It is a meaningful opportunity to:

  • Build a model for community-owned land through Community Land Trust to ensure farmers have a secured tenure. The success of Fund a Land with Kongsi will inspire similar community-led land preservation initiatives across Malaysia and abroad.
  • Support sustainable farming practices such as biodynamic and organic farming that heals and nurtures the people, soil and nature.
  • Strengthen community resilience through Kongsi Co-op’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiatives that support the local food system and sustainable environmental practices where farmers, community and nature thrive.

With Fund a Land with Kongsi, we are building a future where our children can touch the soil and learn where real food comes from, play in a green oasis, not a parking lot and they can witness and understand the power of community and shared responsibility.
