Kongsi Community Market serves as a platform to practise and showcase what we envisioned through Kongsi Co-op’s 4 Core Values and 7 Sustainable Living Principles. Our market Partners (the vendors) are required to follow our guidelines in the food ingredients (organic, biodynamic, organic-in-conversion) and the packaging (no single use containers or cutleries provided). The partners joining our markets have made necessary adjustments in the products in terms of the ingredients and packaging method. We highlight in all our publicity for the participants to bring their own containers and shopping bags. So far most customers came to the event well-prepared. They purchase food with their own containers and fill goods in their own shopping bags, some also brought along their picnic mats and chairs to enjoy their food at the open space of their choice.
Through the markets, we have connected with old and new partners aligned with what we advocate for, as well as providing a platform for new eco-preneurs, some were participants from Kongsi Academy courses to debut their products or services at the market.Â
We started experimenting Kongsi Coupon in the format of paper coins and later digitally with a mobile application, to practise circular economics within the Kongsi Community. It took some effort for our partners and consumers to adapt to the system, nonetheless they were willing to try it out with us. We launched our new form of Kongsi Coupon in June 2024 at Kongsi Community Market held at Federal Hotel in conjunction with Anthroposophic Conference Malaysia, and have been using it at the following events and at Kongsi Store.
